The sermon text is the last chapter of the last book of the Bible, Revelation. Revelation remains a profoundly powerful text despite being so bizarre because it acknowledges the hardship and suffering of daily existence while it also invokes the deepest longings of the human heart for life in all its fullness, healed and whole. St. Augustine said in The City of God in the 4th century that our hearts are restless until they find their rest in God. So we want that new holy city of God coming down from heaven, and we want it now.
