The Rector preaches about the story Jesus tells of two sons whose father sent them into the vineyard to work. One said he would go, but did not and the other said he would not go, but did. The Rector asks us to reflect as well on those times when we have said yes to God’s call, only to falter when carrying it out and to recall times when our initial no was transformed into a new way of following Christ.

Building on the Parable of the Sower, this sermon is about how we live with both the wheat (the good in our life) and the weeds or tares (the evil in our life). Mentioning the Peanuts cartoon strip when Lucy is telling Linus about how we live with both good and evil, Linus says, “I can feel them in there [my tummy] fighting right now.”

In today’s sermon, the Rector talks about the prophet Jeremiah from the seventh and sixth centuries Before the Common Era (BCE), who prophesied about the Babylonian Captivity in 586BCE and about the false prophets who would try to lure followers of God away. Jeremiah calls us to be faithful as followers of God who loves us. Jesus also calls us to be faithful and not to follow the voices of false prophets in our own day. We are called to love our neighbors and keep our covenant with God. The Rector also includes information about her recent study course at Yale.
